Looking into NFT systems..
In aquaponics, NFT is known as nutrient flow systems.
In all honesty, this way of gardening both fascinates and baffles me. Stay tuned as I blunder my way through this complicated mix of filtration, pipes, sumps and pumps. I only hope my roomies do not consider me insane after this..

Front pond update
The fish are still alive, and not eating all that much--likely due to the temperature of the water. I feed them about once a week now.

Future wick planters--biggish pond area
These are the defunct grow beds from the biggish pond.. I do believe that they'll make some rather nice wick beds now. There's a gray water drainage pipe right below them, and I will be working on this project as soon as spring arrives.

upcoming experiment
I think I will be trying out kitty litter as a growing medium. It's certainly cheap, and if it doesn't have the additives that usually go into it, and as it's composed of clay, it should work out fine. Apparently, it's something that the hydroponics folks have been using for such a purpose for years.Since I have 2 trays awaiting gravel when I have enough money to fill them, I think that this new experiment shall go on in the biggish pond area. I hope that the ph level in the water does not move much with it's use. I'm getting might fond of the koi I put in there.

Biggish pond update
Redoing some things-- including the pond liner. Chickenwire is meant to keep the dang coons out. I'm going to restock with butterfly koi.

The middle plant is a severely trimmed hydranea-- and I don't know how to spell it. There are also 2 paperwhite bulbs in the gravel.

End of one season, and onto the next. Up here, I've decided to focus on flowers rather than edibles.

Growbeds up top. Yeah, I know. Not that impressive. We have a stray cat that likes laying in them for some odd reason.
